Description: | From Wichita Riverfest Website: Wichita Festivals was established in 1971 as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation in the State of Kansas. The organizations mission was to produce what was then the Wichitennial River Festival, an off-shoot of the Wichita Centennial Celebration held in 1970. The first festival organized by the young organization was held in 1972 and was two days long. In 1974 the name of the festival was changed to Wichita River Festival and it was extended to 10 days in length.
Since those early years, WFI has annually produced what is now known as Riverfest, along with a number of other events. In 1976, the organization assisted in the community celebration of the U.S. bicentennial. Shortly after the beginning of the twenty-first century, WFI began producing other events including a Chili and Barbeque Cookoff and the Wichita Flight Festival. In 2010, WFI introduced the popular Autumn & Art at Bradley Fair, a juried fine art show and sale held in September.
Wichita Festivals, Inc. is governed by a 15-member board of directors who serve three-year terms. They represent the diversity of culture, experience and business background of our community. The organization has nine full-time employees who work year-round to produce Riverfest and Autumn & Art.
WFI is funded through earned income realized from button, food and merchandise sales at Riverfest and Autumn & Art. Corporate sponsorship is specifically designated for underwriting the events produced by the organization. WFI receives no tax supported revenu
