From Lions Club Labor Day Festival Website:

Chapman Kansas has held an annual Labor Day celebration since 1909. Over the years, the event has grown to include a parade, exhibits among other events. The Lions club plays an integral part in the planning and execution of the day.

The Saturday preceding Labor Day is devoted to an annual golf tournament for which the Lion's Club provides dinner. Community members and visitors alike join in the fun.

Labor Day is opened with a 5K walk and run. This year, all of the proceeds from the 5K went to support the town as we recover from the June 11 tornado. Over 500 people participated in this event.

Early in the morning, celebrants can enjoy the childrens events. The two events include the Tractor Pull and a "Punt, Pass and Kick" competition. During the tractor, participants ride a pedal propelled tractor, pulling progressively heavier loads. "Punt Pass and Kick" is a football competition measuring distance for each category of skill. Parents can register their children the day of the event!

The Toy show is another attraction which draws many visitors. Toy dealers from around the region descend upon Chapman with their collections of unique toys and gifts, featuring farm toys and tractors.

After stopping by the toy show, Labor Day enthusiasts can peruse the Quilt show, showcasing the exquisite talents of Dickinson County's finest quilters. The local quilter's guild facilitates the entries and judging.

The annual car show which takes place from mid morning to early afternoon is often the highlight of the day. Restored and revitalized antique and showcase cars line the streets of Chapman, with their owners close by to happily answer any questions for onlookers.

Chapman also enjoys an antique tractor display, providing visitors with a glimpse of decades-old farm machinery restored to its original functionality.

Additionally, there are craft and food vendors galore lining the streets of Downtown Chapman, offering their wares for sale and display. Crafters and bargain hunters alike can discover new treasures all day long.

Evening festivities include social activities and street dances, taking place in the town square. Following the dance, a spectacular fireworks show can be viewed from just about anywhere in town.

The annual Labor Day Parade completes the day of celebration. Floats, cars, and marching bands wind their way through the streets of Chapman, celebrating this patriotic holiday.

All of these events are made possible by the Lion's Club who provide oversight and manpower for each event.
