Description: | From Spinach Festival Website: Lenexa was hailed as the "Spinach Capital of the World" during the 1930s. Each year, we celebrate that part of our history with the annual Spinach Festival, a fun, family-oriented event that draws thousands of visitors from all over the area. It's a fun-filled day of food, music, entertainment, arts and antique vendors. Excitement throughout the day is set in beautifully renovated Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park and includes:
A spinach recipe contest. Congratulations to the 2014 winners: Nancy Huckaba, Kaitlyn Groene, Jodi and Spencer Schade and Missie Wolfe! View their winning recipes.
Cooking demonstrations
History exhibits, provided by the Lenexa Historical Society
The World's Largest Spinach Salad (150 pounds of fresh, washed spinach!)
Kids' activities, including a baby crawling contest
And much more!
One of the main attractions is the Art, Fine Craft and Antique show, featuring a wonderful variety of items such as pottery, fused glass, repurposed furniture and items, jewelry, felted bags and other items, baskets, wood items, metal garden art, quilts, clothing, doll clothes and accessories, antiques and vintage items.
